Iliad Reading Book 16
Pages 434-441 Lines 800 – End

Questions:
Will Agamemnon go to battle now that Patroclus died ?
Apollo and Zeus are fighting for the Trojans or the Greeks?

Summary and Main Points:

1. Patroclus killed a lot of people there all mentioned in lines 809-815.
2. Apollo told Patroclus to go back.
3. Zeus told Hector to keep fighting and not stop and maybe Apollo might give him glory.
4. Theres a battle scene were the warriors are fighting.
5. Apollo took Patroclus’ helmet off.
6. Patroclus dies.

How do you think Achilles will respond? Predict what's going to happen next.
(I’m not really sure what the question means or what exactly Achilles is responding to)
I think Achilles is going to finally going to go to battle. Because Patroclus just got killed in battle so he’s going to go in memory of him.

Personal Reflection (Inability to forgive)

Personal Reflection:
One time that my inability to forgive took me to a negative consequence was when I didn’t want to forgive my cousin for telling my mom on me. The only reason I didn’t want to forgive her was because I didn’t snitch on her so I thought she wouldn’t snitch on me. That’s what got me mad. But not forgiving her just got me into more trouble because I was really mean to her in front of people and I wouldn’t talk to her so she felt bad and our parents noticed. So I got in trouble and they toke my phone away, and computer privileges because they said I was being really bitchy and rood so I had to learn some matters.
Similarities or Differences to Achilles’ Case:
My case was different to Achilles’ case because I only got in trouble and I couldn’t really do anything about it. Unlike Achilles he stepped up and got really angry at Agamemnon and didn’t go to battle.

Iliad Reading-Book 16 (Beggining)

Iliad Reading-Book 16
Pages 412-421 Lines 1-333
1. Patroclus proposed to Achilles that he want to take leadership over his army. He wants to take lead and tell Achilles’ group what to do. So Patroclus wants to go to war with the Trojans. Achilles response to his proposal was that he will let him go and gives him permission to lead his group only for this war because Patroclus must come back after the battle. Achilles grant Patroclus’ request because he hates Agamemnon and so that Patroclus can win great honor and glory for Achilles so he’s taking most of the credit.

2. When Patroclus says that Achilles is “cursed with his own courage” I think Patroclus means that Achilles’ is cursed because of his own courage. So it goes back to Phoenix telling him to learn how to forgive. Maybe if Achilles lets go of all the anger he has he won’t be cursed. But Achilles is not a coward so I don’t really think that he is cursed, because Achilles has a lot of courage and braveness. He fights his own battles but he doesn’t want to fight this one because he hates Agamemnon.

3. Words I did not understand:
a) Myrmidons - one of the warlike people of ancient Thessaly who accompanied Achilles to the Trojan War.
b) Vagabond - leading an unsettled or carefree life or wandering from one place to another without a home
c) Forged – To form or make something
